If your dental emergency requires immediate attention, we can help. We're capable of addressing nearly all dental emergencies at our office.
Broken or Chipped Tooth
You’re going to want to call our team as soon as possible. In the meantime, make sure to rinse out your mouth with warm water, and try to keep the tooth if possible. Try to keep an ice-pack on it in transit to our office.
Loose Tooth
If your tooth is loose, our dentist may be able to save it. Take some over the counter painkillers, put some ice on it, and get to our office as soon as possible. The sooner you get here, the higher chance your tooth will be saved successfully.
Broken or Lost Crown or Filling
Try to keep the crown or filling to bring with you. Your tooth is going to be very sensitive to almost any sensation of things going into your mouth, including air.
Toothache
The best thing to do is to rinse your mouth with warm water, then try to gently floss around the tooth to make sure no food is in the area. If the pain persists, you’re going to need to come into our office. An X-ray should help identify the underlying issue.
Object Lodged Between Teeth
When something gets stuck between your teeth, it can become irritated and could lead to infection. The risk of cavities or infection increases after the first 72 hours. Try to get the lodged item out with waxed dental floss. The waxed floss can lubricate the area and dislodge the foreign object. If all else fails, call our team for an appointment.
Swelling in the Mouth
Swelling in the mouth could happen for a number of reasons. You may have an abscessed tooth or an infection. There’s really nothing you can do other than getting to our office as soon as possible.
Broken Braces
Braces have a lot of parts that can break. If they break, call our team as soon as possible to book an emergency appointment. Try using some orthodontic wax to cover it if a wire is poking out. If it’s a band that loosens, salvage it and set up an appointment with your orthodontist to have it replaced or re-cemented. You may need to do a minor fix before getting to our office to not cause discomfort in your mouth.
Bit Your Tongue/Cheek
This is very common, and most of the time it’s not too much of an issue. Though there can be circumstances that make it more severe. If there's a wound deep enough, you may need stitches to heal the area. First you'll need to try and stop the bleeding. Rinse your mouth with some saltwater, then use a piece of gauze to put pressure on the wound.
Injured Jaw
For a broken jaw, take some over the counter painkillers and put some ice on it until you can get to the ER. You will likely need a maxillofacial surgeon as soon as possible.
Impacted or Inflamed Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth can cause pain and can result in dental problems and damage to other teeth. Pain near the wisdom tooth area means it's likely impacted and putting pressure on your gums and other teeth. Visit us as soon as possible to get this resolved.
